I was still struggling by the time I got to the swimming pool, but plucked up the strength to get in. So as I started my length, I was overtaken by a 81 year old doing crawl and a 68 year old doing crawl. My arms were so heavy that I kept disappearing under water, and I wasn’t confident that the two other swimmers would be able to come to my aid. So I gave up after 5 short lengths..
Instead of going horizontal laps do vehicle laps. They’re shorter and easier. Especially if you do them in the shallow end of the pool!

I am going to try this, it will treble the amount of laps, and will boast about it! (Will refrain from telling anyone that they were vertical laps)
